Food Inc. Comes to the Watershed!
| February 19, 2010 1:00 pm | to | February 25, 2010 8:30 pm |
A stomach-churning expose on America’s food industry, an industry controlled not by farmers but by a handful of corporations that often put profit before health, the livelihood of farmers, the safety of workers and the environment. Extending the work of nutritionists, journalists and activists such as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma), it brings to to light some shocking truths on what people eat, how it’s produced, and where to go from here. Cheap corn is fed to cows who haven’t evolved to eat it, new strains of E. coli are being found in spinach and lettuce, the egg-to-death life of a chicken is just six weeks.. this is tough watching – scarier than any horror film you’ll see – but essentially viewing. You are, truly, what you eat.
The 13:00hrs Sun 21 Feb screening will be followed by a panel discussion led by Alastair Sawday presented by Festival of Ideas and Soil Association.
